PUBLIC HEARING
1. Proposed modification to Section 5.8 entitled “Protection of Historic Landmarks”
Mr. Gordon read the legal notice into the record. Amy Atamian was seated for Mr. Sanford.
MOTION: Mr. Casiello made a motion to accept the call for the public hearing for the proposed modification to Section 5.8 entitled, “Protection of Historic Landmarks” and open the public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Gordon seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously.
First Selectman Natalie Ketchum was present for this application and explained that the intent is to amend the current regulations so that they are more visible for both the Town Officials as well as the residents of the Town of Redding. It would also preserve the historical structures within the town.
Mr. Casiello pointed out a typographical error on page 3, which Ms. Ketchum indicated she was aware of.
Mark Gemara of 8 Giles Hill Road questioned the proposed changes as he is a contractor and explained that the cost of repairing many times outweighs demolition and cost becomes a factor many times.
Ms. Ketchum explained that just because a structure is old, does not mean that there is historical significance. The structure must have had some type of historical significance in order to fall within these guidelines.

The Planning Commission gave their support to the amendment but suggested some wording changes.
Charlie Couch was present and stated he supports the amendment.
MOTION: Mr. Gordon made a motion to close the public hearing for the proposed modification to Section 5.8 entitled, “Protection of Historic Landmarks”. Mr. Casiello seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously.
