The Tax Collector's Office is responsible for collection of payments of personal property (real estate, auto, boats, etc.) and for special town services such as the Georgetown Sewer District. The office is located in the Town Office Building and open during normal Town Hall hours. The Tax Office takes great pride in the efficiency with which tax matters are handled. The office is responsible for thorough accounting of all records and funds administered. A courteous attitude is mandatory while upholding high standards of ethical conduct and operating in accordance with all
applicable federal and state laws.
The Georgetown Sewer District collections utilize a great deal of time. We continually make changes to our system, improving on usage and assessment billing and collections. The sewer treatment project is vital to the redevelopment of Georgetown. The sewer district began with 52 parcels of property. Recently the Woods Way subdivision was added to the system, and in the near future the Meadow Ridge facility will be connected. Rates and collections procedures will continue to be researched.
Several statute changes have been made with regard to delinquent collections. All changes have been duly implemented. As it is often impossible to attend hearings in Hartford regarding tax laws, we depend heavily on the Connecticut Tax Collectors Association to keep us informed.
