Special Board of Selectmen meeting
February 4, 2008

First Selectman Natalie Ketcham called the meeting to order at 7:35pm. On the motion of Don Takacs, seconded by Tina Miller, the board went into executive session to discuss a personnel matter relating to the continued employment of a Town of Redding employee. Police Chief Douglas Fuchs and Controller Larry Hutvagner were invited to attend.
The Board returned to public session at 8pm. Don Takacs moved that the Board of Selectmen accept Chief Fuch’s recommendation regarding personnel. Tina Miller seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
The Board discussed the budget numbers provided by the Controller. There was agreement that $45,000 would stay in the highway department rental account for the excavator and $160,000 would be budgeted for Capital and Non-recurring. If a decision is made that it is in the best interest of the town to purchase the excavator rather than rent, the additional $90,000 for the purchase could come from the Capital and Non-recurring account. This expenditure would require Town Meeting approval.
On the motion of D. Takacs, seconded by T. Miller, the board unanimously approved a FY 2008-09 budget of $13,029,786 to recommend to the Board of Finance for the Public Hearing on March 6, 2008. This reflects a 3.72% increase over the expenditures for FY 2007-08 for town operating and capital expenses, Mark Twain Library, insurance, and debt service. The board calculated that during this season’s budget process, $1,061,554 had been eliminated from the original requests from town departments and the Mark Twain Library.
The Board adjourned at 8:45pm.
