Meeting Minutes

November 19, 2007

Present: Miller, Takacs, Ketcham

Also present:  four members of the public and a representative of the Redding Pilot

 

Mrs. Ketcham called the November 19, 2007 meeting to order at 7:30 pm.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Motion:  move that the minutes of the October 20, 2007 meeting be accepted as submitted.  Miller, Takacs.  Approved Unanimous.

 

Motion: move that the minutes of the October 22, 2007 meeting be accepted as submitted.  Miller, Takacs.  Approved. Unanimous.

 

Motion: move that the minutes of the October 29, 2007 meeting (8:00 pm) be accepted as corrected.  Takacs, Miller.  Approved. Unanimous.

Correction:  line 5 of the motion, correct name is Will and Emery in Chicago.

 

Motion: move that the minutes of the October 29, 2007 meeting (9:00 pm) be accepted as submitted.  Miller, Takacs.  Approved. Unanimous.

 

CLEAN ENERGY CAMPAIGN UPDATE AND RIDGEFIELD CHALLENGE

Representatives of the Clean Energy Committee were present, along with Jay Whelan representing the Ridgefield group working on the Clean Energy Program.  Mr. Whelan explained the Ridgefield challenge to other Connecticut towns to promote the Clean Energy Program.  The town with the highest percentage of increase in households signing up for the Clean Energy Program by Earth Day 2008 will be awarded a prize.  As of 10-18-07, Redding has 76 households signed up for the program.  Committee members reported the number is now over 100.  Mr. Whelan added that the Ridgefield Committee will share information and marketing/incentive ideas with the Redding Committee.  The Redding Committee is working on ways to encourage residents to enroll in the program, including discussions with John Read Middle School and students from the high school.

 

ATHLETIC FIELDS UPDATE

The DEP review of the project might be on their agenda for the November meeting.  Barry Blades sent information on the proposed synthetic turf and continues to review other types of artificial surfaces.  Safety and health issues related to artificial turf will be considered in the decision making process.

 

GLDC UPDATE

The infrastructure/roadway work is now scheduled to begin in the spring.  The new sewage treatment plant is now online and capable of handling 125,000 gallons per day.  The plant will be fully operational in January/February.

 

WPCC APPOINTMENT

Motion:  move to appoint Dan Robinson to the Water Pollution Control Commission as a member representing Georgetown.  Miller, Takacs.  Approved. Unanimous.

 

ZBA ALTERNATE APPOINTMENT

Motion:  move to appoint Henry Polio as a Zoning Board of Appeals alternate, filling the term of Michael Thompson.  Takacs, Miller.  Approved. Unanimous.

 

ZONING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

Current Zoning Enforcement Officer, Tom Gormley, was elected First Selectman of Middlebury and has resigned his position in Redding.  Ray Flanagan has been hired to fill the position effective December 3, 2007.  Mr. Gormley and Mr. Flanagan have begun transition work sessions to promote a smooth change.

 

SWEARING-IN CEREMONY

The Swearing-in ceremony will be on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at 7 pm in the Hearing Room.

 

MEETING SCHEDULE 2008

Motion:  move that the Redding Board of Selectmen meeting schedule for 2008 be accepted as corrected.  Miller, Takacs.  Approved. Unanimous.

 

ADJOURNMENT

The Chair adjourned the meeting at 8:30 pm
