REVIEW BLADES & GOVEN STATUS
Mr. Blades of Blades & Goven reported the project application for RCC Field #2 is scheduled for review by the Conservation Commission at their meeting on August 17, 2010. Mr. Blades reviewed the material that will be presented at that meeting. The material includes an engineering study/drainage analysis and impact on the fields. There does not appear to be any significant change to the current conditions. The drawings/renderings show the field outlined for both soccer and football. Mr. Blades met with the well company regarding the proposed location for the well, irrigation controls and storage tank.
The issue of field drainage was reviewed in detail. Mr. Blades suggested consideration of offering something in exchange for the wetlands change. Following discussion of buffer plantings and a rain garden, the consensus of the Committee was to recommend the buffer plantings.
Mr. Blades will finalize all documentation for presentation to the Conservation Commission.
FUNDING BROCHURE AND FUNDING OPTIONS
This item was tabled to the next meeting. Mr. Degener was not present.
UPDATE STATUS OF 501(C)(3) FOR COLLECTION OF NEEDED FUNDS TO COMPLETE RCC #2
Mr. Takacs reported that Art Poltrack has volunteered to head up the 501(C)(3) and Chris Hocker will act as treasurer of the organizations. Mr. Takacs noted that this needs to be set up as soon as possible as he has received two donations to the project.
REVIEW CONNECTICUT REPORTS APPROVING SAFETY OF ARTIFICIAL TURF
Mr. Takacs reported that a new study by four Connecticut state agencies has found no elevated health risks from artificial turf sports fields made with crushed rubber. The study was done by the University of Connecticut Health Center, the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, the Department of Public Health and the Department of Environmental Protection. Concerns have been raised across the country about artificial turf's safety because of industrial chemicals in crushed rubber tires. Mr. Takacs suggested that Committee members review the reports.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 9:50 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Maday, Recording Secretary
