Description
Drinking and Driving Education
The Redding Police Department has purchased Fatal Vision Goggles which simulate being under the influence of alcohol. As part of our ongoing effort to educate our residents as to the dangers of drinking and driving, we will be offering a program to our youth that utilizes these goggles.
Traffic Safety Initiative
Traffic Safety Initiative
We have received grants that have allowed us to maximize our efforts in this area. Our traffic safety initiative is based on education and enforcement.
Speeding Complaint Forms
Any resident who feels that there is a particular speeding problem of which the police are not aware may come into police headquarters and complete a speeding complaint. Officers will address the complaint and respond to the complainant with our activity and findings.
Radar Trailer
Radar Trailer
Through a grant we have purchased a S.M.A.R.T. Trailer (Speed Monitoring Awareness Radar Trailer). This trailer is utilized to educate drivers as to their speed in areas in which either the police or residents feel that there is a need.
Seatbelt WAVE
This year we participated in a statewide initiative to promote the use of seatbelts. For a two week period officers set up spot checks to encourage motorists to wear their seatbelts. Police issued 121 warnings and 14 tickets for failing to wear a seatbelt. As a result of our participation in the program, we will be receiving a grant from The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation - Highway Safety with which to purchase additional traffic safety equipment.
