PUBLIC COMMENT: Liz Streit and Jill Kotch, members of the Redding Garden Club, presented a proposal for increasing the size of the Community Garden. There has been a waiting list to use the Garden for several years, as the number of plots has been limited. The Redding Garden Club will fund an expansion of the garden by 11 plots, each 28’ X 21’, for a total length of 232 feet, as a memorial for the founder of the Garden Club, Betty Hill. There will be no cost to the Town, and the Garden Club will get cost estimates and make sure that there are no water well or septic issues. The Commission supports the idea and will send communication to the Selectmen indicating their support. The Garden Club will present their proposal at a Selectmen’s meeting to get approval to proceed with the proposed enlargement.

Dan Sullivan, from the “Greybeards,” fundraising group spoke briefly as to their efforts on the part of the Greybeards RES Basketball courts restoration group to raise $6,500 in funds to pay for the new hoops and possibly courts at RES.  Mr Sullivan presented the upcoming “5K-ish” Trail Run to take place at Topstone Park tentatively on April 10. TD Bank and Ancona’s Market will be sponsors for the event, which will feature an adult run, a children’s run, and be capped at 175 runners. Mr. Blick has been working with the Greybeards to set-up the event and ensure all safety and other details are covered. The trails will be prepared so that hazards are prominently indicated; the parking lot will be location for “Event HQ” staff, EMS personnel and Ambulance that will be on site and the course will be monitored and any emergency or injury reported to the HQ.  Main gate will be closed at 10:45am before 11am children’s race, followed by adult event.

LETTERS/CORRESPONDENCE:  The Redding PTA would like to host a carnival at RES and will get back to Mr. Blick with a proposal regarding timing and other details. Mr. Blick will investigate calendar availability at the RCC as many events have already been booked.

DIRECTORS REPORT:  The Commission discussed Mr. Blick’s monthly report. Highlights included an additional half hour of swim time at the Meadow Ridge pool for next season. Liz Sager will work with Rob to better organize lap and family swim times, plus will assist with correspondence and/or announcements to P&R Meadow Ridge pool users.
The Commission discussed the 2010 COG series and the possibility of radio advertising.
As of July 1, the Town will no longer be using Lightning PC as technician for the Town’s computers, but will share 3 technicians from the BOE.
The Community center gym floor needs to be re-surfaced soon and this project will take place during the April school break. It is a two part project, and the second resurfacing will be done after the September-Labor Day book fair.
