Town of Redding, Connecticut


PRESENT:  Chairperson-Lee Morgan, Kim Taylor, Gary Miyashiro, Lisa LeBlanc, Meredith McClung

ABSENT: Paul Degener, Susan Goldman, Liz Sager, Todd Bennett

STAFF:  Rob Blick, Park and Rec Director

The meeting was called to order at 7:37 p.m. The Commission welcomed new members Lisa LeBlanc and Gary Miyashiro.

The Minutes from March 23, 2009 were reviewed and unanimously approved.

DIRECTORS REPORT:  Highlights included a successful Family Game night. Another event is scheduled for the fall. The Spring Fling teen Night was also a success, with over 100 students participating. Those present reported a well behaved attendance. Another teen night for 5th and 6th grade students is being planned for the beginning of June. The cost savings of online registration and collaboration with Easton’s Community Center for softball, basketball and volleyball events were also topics discussed.

BUDGET DISCUSSION: Mr. Blick reported being on target with current budget numbers. He reported that camp enrollment so far is 30% for Day camp and 12% for Mini-camp.

UPDATE ON NEW INITIATIVES AS A RESULT OF SURVEY INFORMATION: The Commission discussed plans for two summer movie nights, likely to be held at the “bowl” area at Redding Elementary School.

LETTERS AND CORRESPONDENCE:  There were no letters or correspondence.

PUBLIC COMMENT: Mr. Blick reported one item, a request for the location of an area where flags to be properly destroyed can be stored for pickup.

The Commission briefly discussed programming and working with the Heritage Center so as not to conflict.

The next scheduled meeting will be a Special Meeting scheduled for May 18, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.

The meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
