 Redding Park and Recreation – Special Meeting Minutes
Date: September 24, 2008
Town of Redding, Connecticut

PRESENT:  Chairperson-Lee Morgan, Todd Bennett, Shannon Craley, Paul Degener, Susan Goldman, Liz Sager
STAFF:  Rob Blick, Director;

The meeting was called to order at 7:48 p.m.

The Minutes from August 4, 2008 were reviewed and unanimously approved on motion of Mr. Degener and second of Ms. Craley.
Members welcomed new Commission member Todd Bennett.

DIRECTORS REPORT:  Mr. Blick reported that the theme of the Annual Report this year is the effect of the budget crisis on town government. Room rental fees were discussed. Fees were adjusted from $25 an hour to $35 an hour. Non-profit Redding based organizations will not be charged the $35 fee as long as they are within the budgeted hours of the building being open. There was discussion as to the effect of the modified town hours of operation on Park and Recreation programs. Mr. Blick reported that small modifications have been made to reschedule or consolidate some programs.
Mr. Blick shared final attendance numbers for camp and Topstone and final budget numbers from last year to the current time. The Commission discussed developing program numbers as early in the fall season as is possible, as this may help increase enrollment numbers.
Budget discussion will be added to future agenda’s.

LETTERS/CORRESPONDENCE:  Mr. Blick reported receiving one letter from the Redding Boys and Girls Club. Due to class cancellations, some temporary rooms have been found for the afterschool program. The Boys and Girls Club will not be involved in the afterschool program.

TOPSTONE ENHANCEMENT: The Topstone Day event went very well and is anticipated to do even better in the spring. Mr. Blick said that the staff did a great job.

PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment.

The Commission briefly discussed administrative matters.

The next scheduled meeting will be a Special Meeting tentatively scheduled for October 21, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.

The meeting adjourned at 9:21 p.m.
