Date: November 8, 2004
Town of Redding, Connecticut

PRESENT:  Acting Chairperson- Joe Ventricelli; Charlie Fields, Dan Carter, Tushar Shah, Joe Dolan, Susan Goldman, Steve DiCostanzo,

Also in attendance- Chris Hocker

The updated draft of the Athletic Field Study was shared with the Commission. The purpose was to make the document easier to understand and for it to reflect the period of peek demand vs. field availability. Joe Dolan gave the Commission an overview of how we arrived at the numbers and how they should look at the top sheet and footnotes. The list of assumptions was discussed and clarified. Another draft will be put before the Commission most likely at the next Commission meeting for approval. In general, the Commission was supportive of the new format. They also acknowledged the large amount of time and effort that Paul Degener put into compiling the initial report.

Key Discussion Issues- Talking Points
·       An overview - How we arrived at the numbers and how to look at the top sheet and footnotes
·       To just include field availability vs. the users need; to refraining from suggesting solutions in this report
·       To refrain from using adjectives in discussing the shortage of fields
·       To refrain from making assumption regarding additional fields at JBHS
·       To leave as much clear information in the foot note section- without long explanation of our reasoning
·       Discussion on how to reflect multi town sports
·       Discussion on how to accurately reflect the reality that soccer has been able to practice earlier than the times that most sports groups can count on getting the volunteer coaches that they need
·       Should we switch models to deal with the reality of two hour blocks of practice fitting into 2.5 hour slots?
·       Not to include any growth in the numbers, just to reflect that we didn’t include it
·       How to reflect what groups have been doing given a shortage- The impact of sub optimal conditions footnote.
