                                                        October 25, 2009

Dear Mr. Foley:

The Board of Ethics met today at Town Hall at 1:30 p.m. to discuss and respond to your request for an advisory opinion on an issue relating to the Redding Board of Education.  Based on a review of our Code of Ethics,  we unanimously concluded that such individual as you describe (a candidate for the Redding Board of Education whose spouse is employed as a teacher at the elementary school), should he be elected, would  be required to abstain from engaging in deliberations and/or voting with respect to the Teachers’ contract or any other matters that may come before the Board of Education relevant to the teaching staff.

                                                        Sincerely yours,

                                                        Emily d’Aulaire
