 II.  Commissioner Reports
Ms. Schiron presented the Municipal Agent’s Report to the Commission. After the initial budget meeting, there was not much concern as to the Social Services budget in comparison to other town agencies and offices. The Finance Committee had the most concern about improving the newsletter and generating more interest in programs so as to increase revenue but at a minimal cost. The newsletter will be mailed to Reddingites who are 60 and older.

Ms. Sibilio presented the Heritage Center Report to the Commission. There were 77 van trips in January for a total of 822 miles. The Wii program is being presented on February 17th. However, there was a concern for lack of sign up for this program and the Italian cooking class. Meals On Wheels drivers are needed, so the local houses of worship will be approached for volunteers.

Ms. Whitham presented the Program Sub-Committee Report. The sub-committee has met once since January. Ms. Whitham volunteered to write a small article in an effort to stimulate interest about programs and upcoming special events and encourage residents to attend. Other topics discussed were developing and updating the email list of registrants and using more graphics in the newsletter. An email list also needs to be created to distribute the newsletter.

Eloise Barron, Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, gave an update for the Quality of Living At Home Sub-Committee.  Ms. Barron reported that a few residents received assistance with driveway clearing and that a local troop of Boy Scouts assisted another resident. Four safety home assessments have been done. An event is being planned to reach out to and educate “baby boomers” about topics such as financial and estate planning, among others. The sub-committee consists of Ros Kopfstein, Bill Morris and Henry Polio who will work on the May 18th event at the community center.

Ms. Whitham reported on the Mark Twain Library Celebration. Members of the Commission were asked to volunteer to read from the book created by the Commission on February 27th.

III.  Adjournment
The next COA meeting is scheduled for March 2, 2011 at 9:00 a.m.
There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 10:20 a.m.
