COMMISSION ON AGING
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 5, 2011
9:00 a.m.

The meeting was called to order at 9:02 a.m.
  I.  Approval of Minutes from December 1, 2010
The minutes were reviewed and approved as submitted.

II.  Commissioner Reports
Barry Robinson, who runs the SeniorNet computer program at the Heritage Center, spoke briefly as to some concerns he has with regard to the program. Mr. Robinson is encouraged that the extra mailings of the newsletter may translate to increased enrollment in programming at the Center. Mr. Robinson suggested more focus on email notifications of programming, which is a less costly option to the newsletter mailings. Mr. Robinson also said that the WiFi network will be expanded within the Heritage Center to include other areas in addition to the already served Park and Recreation and Community Room areas.
First Selectman Natalie Ketcham spoke briefly to the advantage of keeping the mailing fee line item the same in the budget and improving the newsletter in content and distribution so as to improve the enrollment into programs.  Commission members discussed ways to increase interest in the SeniorNet program, including publishing photographs.

Jean Whitham reported that the Program Sub-Committee will be meeting on Monday, January 10 and invited Mr. Robinson to attend to share his thoughts on improving interest in SeniorNet and other programming. Commission members also discussed generating more interest in the luncheon program.

Ms. Schiron presented the Municipal Agent’s Report to the Commission. The Budget Workshop in   
January 21, 2011, and Ms. Schiron urged Commission members to attend.

Ms. Sibilio presented the Heritage Center Report to the Commission. There were 141 van trips in December for a total of 1,317 miles.

Mr. Crocker reported that there will be a meeting of The Quality of Living At Home Sub-committee on January 27, 2011.

III.  Adjournment
  The next COA meeting is scheduled for February 2, 2011 at 9:00 a.m.
  There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
