COMMISSION ON AGING
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2010
9:00 a.m.

The meeting was called to order at 9:02 a.m.
  I.  Approval of Minutes from September 1, 2010
               The minutes were reviewed and approved as submitted.

II.  Public Comment
Rosalind Harris, from the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association (RVNA), spoke briefly about the October 26, 2010 launch of The Redding Directory of Information for Seniors and Their Families. Final draft revisions will be made in time for the October 26th presentation. A press release will be drafted and flyers will be distributed. There are sponsors for refreshments and decorations. Commission members will also be responsible for registration, taking pictures during the presentation, items for a light supper, and contacting local clubs and organizations.

Lisa Lind-Larsen spoke with regard to a property dispute issue she is presently involved with. Ms. Kopfstein stated that she is familiar with the issue, and had a letter from the Town Attorney dated September 28, 2010 confirming that this is a civil matter between private parties for the courts to resolve and that emergency access to the property is available. The available access way needs to be improved but it is usable.

III.  Reports
Ms. Schiron presented the Municipal Agent’s Report to the Commission. The Commission discussed distribution of the Heritage Center newsletter and the possibility of adding postage to the budget for mailing the newsletter, conducting a survey regarding the bulletin, and utilizing more precise methods of distribution.

Ms. Sibilio presented the Heritage Center Report to the Commission. There were 179 van trips in September for a total of 1,523 miles. More efficient coordination of the Meals On Wheels Program was discussed. Flu shots for seniors will be on Wednesday, November 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Ms. Kopfstein sent a letter to the Redding Planning Commission, expressing concern that their reports do not include topics such as the need for transportation, affordable senior housing and the related needs of resident elders.

              IV.  Adjournment
        The next COA meetin g is scheduled for November 3, 2010 at 9:00 a.m.
                There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 10:20 a.m.
