REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 2010
9:00 a.m.

The meeting was called to order at 9:02 a.m.

         I.   Approval of Minutes from March 3, 2010
The minutes were reviewed and unanimously approved as submitted with a minor name correction.
                
        II.   Reports

Ms. Schiron presented the Municipal Agents Report to the Commission. Topics included the popularity of the Redding Shares the Warmth program and the Food Pantry. The Commission also discussed public posting of the newsletter.

Ms. Sibilio presented the Heritage Center Report to the Commission. There were 239 van trips in March for a total of 1,833 miles.

Ms. Metzger reported that there is no new information with regard to Georgetown senior housing, and that there will be a meeting in June. First Selectman Natalie Ketcham reported that the closing should take place in June. Activities are still moving forward and Ms. Ketcham  attended a recent meeting in Hartford with the new buyer and representatives from the DEP.

The Quality of Living at Home and the Cost of Aging and Who Pays seminar was very successful with a good turnout. Another seminar and similar programs will be planned for a future time.

As of July 1, 2010, the State of Connecticut will establish a Department on Aging. This agency will handle complaints about issues such as health care and nursing homes. They will also oversee local Commissions on Aging.

        III.    Adjournment
The next COA meeting is scheduled for May 5, 2010 at 9:00 a.m.
There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 9:50 a.m.
