COMMISSION ON AGING
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 2010
9:00 a.m.
HERITAGE CENTER

The meeting was called to order at 9:02 a.m.

 I.  Approval of Minutes from March 3, 2010
        The minutes were reviewed and unanimously approved as submitted with a minor name correction.
                
II.  Reports

        Ms. Schiron presented the Municipal Agent’s Report to the Commission. Topics included the popularity of the Redding Shares the  Warmth program and the Food Pantry. The Commission also discussed public posting and distribution of the newsletter since it will       no longer be mailed.

Ms. Sibilio presented the Heritage Center Report to the Commission. There were 239 van trips in March for a total of 1,833 miles. New programs are being offered, and a choral group is starting at the Heritage Center.

Ms. Metzger reported that there is no new information with regard to Georgetown senior housing; a closing for new owners is planned for June. Activities are still moving forward and she attended a recent meeting in Hartford with the new buyer and representatives from the DEP.

The Quality of Living at Home and the Cost of Aging and Who Pays seminar in March was very successful with a good turnout. Another seminar and similar programs will be planned for a future time with the help of the Ridgefield VNA.

As of July 1, 2010, the State of Connecticut will establish a Department on Aging. This agency will handle complaints about issues such as health care and nursing homes. They will also oversee local Commissions on Aging.

III.  Adjournment
        The next COA meeting is scheduled for May 5, 2010 at 9:00 a.m.
        There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 9:50 a.m.
