REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, JULY 1, 2009
9:00 a.m.

The meeting was called to order at 9:02 a.m.

  I.  Approval of Minutes from June 3, 2009

The minutes were reviewed and several minor typographical corrections were made. The minutes were approved as corrected.

II.  Reports

Ms. Schiron presented the Municipal Agents Report to the Commission. Ms. Schiron reported that the cost of classes has been increased. The cost will now be $10 per class; $5.00 if you are 60 years of age or older. These prices will also apply to Park and Recreation classes as well. The Commission discussed focusing on suggestions for classes that would appeal to younger “baby boomer” participants.

Mr. Polio reported that the new SeniorNet Coordinator is Barry Robinson. Mr. Robinson will take over the program in September.

Ms. Sibilio presented the Heritage Center Report to the Commission. There were 203 van trips in June for a total of 1,577 miles. The Commission discussed the need for supplies for the Food Pantry. A letter will be published in The Redding Pilot announcing a need for donations from the Community.

The Commission discussed programs and seminars addressing retirement options, including issues such as independent living, health care and senior housing. An informational meeting will be planned.

Ms. Metzger had nothing new to report with regard to Senior Affordable Housing.       

III.  Nomination of Officers

Upon motion of Mr. Morris and second of Ms. Metzger, Rosalind Kopfstein was nominated as Chairman of the Commission on Aging. The motion carried unanimously.

Upon motion of Mr. Morris and second of Ms. Metzger, Sharon Rehme was nominated as Vice Chairman of the Commission on Aging. The motion carried unanimously.

Ms. Whitham wished to publicly thank Janet Auerbach who assisted with sorting the Heritage Center     
library book collection.

 IV.  Adjournment
The next COA meeting is scheduled for September 2, 2009 at 9:00 a.m., to be held at Town Hall.

There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
