The Redding Probate Court is one of the 117 probate districts in Connecticut. Since 1850, the voters of the town or towns comprising each respective probate district have elected probate judges. Judges are elected to four-year terms. Judge Emerson has served as Redding’s Judge since 1979.
The jurisdiction of Connecticut Probate Courts encompasses a wide variety of matters, including the admission of wills to Probate, the supervision of decedents estates and trusts, conservatorships, changes of name, adoptions and terminations of parental rights, matters involving persons with mental retardation, commitments of mentally ill adults and children, and certain matters involving guardianships and temporary custody rights. The Probate Court no longer processes US passports. Please see your local post office for this service.
Probate Hearings are informal and offer participants an opportunity to be heard, seek additional information and resolve differences.
The Probate Court is located in the Redding Town Office Building. The Court Clerk is available on a daily basis, Monday – Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Judge is available by appointment at the convenience of those who need his service.
