TOWN OF REDDING BOARD OF ASSESSMENT APPEALS
MOTOR VEHICLE APPEALS
Thursday, September 12, 2009-9:00 a.m.
TOWN HALL HEARING ROOM
Present: Greg Stackpole, Chairman; Rob Gorman; Leon Karvelis; Jan Dorenbosch
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m.
Two appeals were deliberated:
Oliver Zitzmann, 35 Hill Road:
2006 Volkswagon Touareg, assessed value $30,770
Mr. Zitzmann maintained that the assessed value was too high for the proposed market value of $19,675
Susan Feilich, 103 Peaceable Street
2008 Audi A4, assessed at $29,300
Ms. Feilich felt that her tax should be based on the lease agreement of her vehicle, and that her tax should be paid based on her leased use. Proposed market value is $21,789.15
The Board went into deliberative session at 11:03 a.m.
Oliver Zitzmann, 2006 Volkswagon Touareg: After careful consideration the Board determined that the vehicle is a V10, which is valued higher than the V6 or V8 models. Upon motion of Mr. Stackpole and second of Mr. Karvelis, the Board voted unanimously that no change be made in the assessment.
Susan Feilich, 2008 Audi A4: After careful consideration the Board determined that values are based on market value of the vehicle, not on a percent of the interest. Upon motion of Mr. Stackpole and second of Mr. Gorman, the Board voted unanimously that no change be made in the assessment.
Upon motion of Mr. Stackpole and second of Mr. Karvelis, the minutes from the March 26, 2009 real estate appeals meeting were unanimously approved.
The Board discussed finding a new Alternate and Regular member. Dan Heller is no longer an Alternate Board member and Rob Gorman will not seek re-appointment as a Regular member. Mr. Stackpole will seek advice from Town Council as to proper procedure.
The Board set the tentative date of the preliminary Real Estate Assessment Meeting for the Grand List of October 1, 2009 for February 24, 2010 at 6:00 p.m.
Meeting dates for subsequent hearings will be determined at that time, based on the number of real estate appeals received.
A motion to adjourn was made, seconded and carried unanimously at 11:00 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Val Koniecki, Recording Secretary
