Board of Assessment Appeals Minutes 09/25/2008
TOWN OF REDDING

BOARD OF ASSESSMENT APPEALS

MOTOR VEHICLE APPEALS

Thursday, September 25, 2008-6:00 p.m.

TOWN HALL CONFERENCE ROOM

Present: Greg Stackpole, Chairman; Rob Gorman; Leon Karvelis

The meeting was called to order at 6:10 p.m.

The following three appeals were deliberated:

Mary Callahan, 74 Old Redding Road:

2007 Honda Civic, assessed value $15,820

Mrs. Callahan inquired as to why her motor vehicle assessment was less for the 2006 assessment and increased in 2007.

It was explained to Mrs. Callahan that the first tax bill was pro-rated and the exemption was a credit from a prior vehicle.

Tim Smith, 15 Diamond Hill Road:

1966 Land Rover

Mr. Smith inquired as to why his 1966 Land Rover was assessed higher than his 1974 Land Rover. The 1966 model has not been used for several years as it was damaged in a house fire. Mr. Smith was advised to seek an administrative exemption from the Assessors office.

Bridget Murphy, 99 Topstone Road:

2006 Volkswagon Jetta

Ms. Murphy said that the value of this vehicle is over assessed based on the 2007 market value of $22,529, and that the mileage of 38,125 miles should be considered.

2003 Ford Excursion

Ms. Murphy said that this vehicle is also over assessed, based on a market value of $19,200. Appraised market value is $9,700.

The Board went into deliberative session at 7:07 p.m.

Mary Callahan, 2007 Honda Civic:  After careful consideration the Board voted unanimously that no change be made in the assessment.

Tim Smith, 15 Diamond Hill Road: Mr. Smith was advised to seek administrative exemption from the Assessor’s office.

Bridget Murphy, 99 Topstone Road: After careful consideration the Board voted unanimously to reduce the assessed value of the 2006 Volkswagon Jetta to $15,505.

Bridget Murphy, 99 Topstone Road: After careful consideration the Board voted unanimously that no change be made in the assessed value of the 2003 Ford Excursion.

The Board set the tentative date of the preliminary Real Estate Assessment Meeting for the Grand List of October 1, 2008 for February 21, 2009 at 9:00 a.m.

Meeting dates for subsequent hearings will be determined at that time, based on the number of real estate appeals received.

Minutes from the April 22, 2008 real estate appeals meeting will also be reviewed at that time.

A motion to adjourn was made, seconded and carried unanimously at 7:30 p.m.
